Business Development Representative

To develop relationships with customers and solicit freight orders from a designated and assigned base of Network customers by fax, phone, e-mail, web-based platforms, and electronic data interchange and once received, enter the freight orders into McLeod TMS.

To achieve minimum gross profit of $16,000. per month

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • To prospect daily for new freight opportunities from customers.
  • Consistently and continually solicit committed and non-committed freight orders from a designated and assigned customer base via a multitude of communication exchanges daily, commensurate with company and business level needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to allow for the greatest opportunities in generating the highest level of order volumes.
  • Aggressively accept, pre-accept, and enter all freight orders into McLeod.
  • Work with manager of business development to maximize the amount of freight orders to accept.
  • Work closely with the carrier sales team to ensure all freight is being properly covered and on time service metrics are being achieved.
  • Keep customers informed of the status of deliveries, including in some cases updating of the customer web sites or EDI exchanges.
  • Make a minimum number of outbound calls daily along with minimum number of weekly conference calls (these goals to be determined on individual basis, depending on experience) to maintain set revenue goals.
  • Create a cold call strategy to solicit new customers.
  • When onboarding new business, work with account managers and carrier sales team to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Work with new customers and customer service representative so that the accounts can smoothly be transitioned over to customer service.
  • Communicate with customer service personnel and management to advise them on any feedback provided by the customer relative to our service or changes in their business levels with Network Transport.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to travel to visit customers to maintain a good working relationship with the customers.
  • Through words and actions support Networks Transport’s mission, vision, and values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
  • Maintain company, employee, and customers confidentiality.
  • Follow all work rules as written in the company handbook and company policies and procedures or as communicated by the company Human Resources Department.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.

KEY KNOWLEDGE & EXPERINCE:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. College degree preferred
  • 2-3 years’ work experience in the transportation industry or, customer service, direct with customer service solicitation, inside sales or sales preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products with above average Excel skills
  • Knowledge of the Internet required
  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment preferred.

Carrier Sales Representative

As part of our brokerage carrier sales team, you will work closely with our extensive network of carriers, as well as develop new relationships focusing on improving efficiency and managing transportation costs. You will be responsible for taking a proactive approach in mastering the pricing and capacity fluctuations in the truckload shipping market. You will coordinate the successful movement of loads based on customer requirements, performing carrier compliance and work with our outsourced network of transportation partners.

To achieve minimum gross profit objectives of $30,000.00 per month.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Negotiate rates with carriers for maximum profit.
  • Collect, document and disseminate accurate information to/from Carriers and Drivers and between internal departments.
  • Dispatch drivers to designated shippers, consignees, and intermediate stops if applicable.
  • Collect all required information from drivers before dispatching and provide accurate and detailed information regarding directions, load information, pick-up/delivery times/numbers as well as all other special load related information.
  • Manage carrier issues and resolve carrier operational problems including unplanned accessorial charges and accounting discrepancies.
  • Develop and maintain quality working relationships with transportation providers, customers and warehouses by using various means of communications.
  • Represent our customer when working with the contracted carrier.
  • Act as a fiduciary of Network Transport. It is important to put the company interest above your own.
  • Prospect carriers on a daily basis to further grow and develop Network Transport’s carrier base.
  • Collect and document all available equipment from carrier partners.
  • Document all preferred lanes, live trucks and services offered by carrier partners.
  • Work closely with commercial pricing and business development to ensure contract freight bid volume is being achieved.
  • Communicate new transportation provider opportunities to Customer Sales and Network Transport.
  • Review carrier credentials to ensure they meet Network Transport Logistics compliance requirements.
  • Send rate confirmations to carriers that document all requirements and verify receipt.
  • Identify and communicate ways Network Transport Logistics can continuously improve in its operations.
  • Assist in the development of new employees.
  • Source and procure carrier services to ensure timely pick-up and delivery of customer freight.
  • Establish deep and mutually rewarding relationships with carriers to expand capacity opportunities.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers on a spot or transactional basis.
  • Work effectively with your sales and operations colleagues at Network Transport to provide a seamless efficient experience to our customers.
  • Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to work on any Network Transport site or Network Transport customer location site while performing the essential functions of this position.

  • Accept ownership of available loads and be committed to ensuring that it is properly covered before you leave for the day.
  • Ensure freight is booked with sufficient information and all customer needs and requirements are met.
  • Advise managers regarding market rate trends.
  • Engage in constant conversation with carriers regarding capacity needs and share this information with business development, and Account Managers.
  • Actively participate in carrier development initiatives.
  • Effectively manage your workload to ensure all booked freight is covered and moved on a timely basis.
  • Follow all work rules as written in the company handbook and company policies and procedures or as communicated by the company Human Resources Department.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

KEY KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma with some college preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of Sales, marketing or customer service experience or at least 1 year of experience in carrier sales / brokerage is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a deadline driven environment preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer software programs necessary to perform job function.
  • Driven & competitive nature with impressive negotiation skills.
  • Strong problem solving & decision-making abilities.
  • Quick learner who is successful at multi-tasking.
  • Willing to constantly look for ways to improve performance.
